Pastor Kumuyi urges Nigerian to shun night clubbing, cultism, other negative social habits
The General Superintendent, Deeper Christian Life Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi has charged Nigerians to shun night clubs, cultism and other social vices. Kumuyi made the call while speaking on the topic “The Supernatural Beginning of a Better Future,” at the ongoing Lagos City-wide Crusade in Agege, Lagos.
According to P.M News, he urged Nigerians to root out the habit of night clubbing, cultism and other negative social pastimes from their lives and surrender to Jesus who has the power to break the negative habits from their lives.

Many Nigerian governors have come out to reject the death penalty for looters.
This development stems from the fact that Organised Labour- the Nigerian Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress at the beginning of the week said looters should be given the death sentence in order to serve as deterrence to others.
On their decision, Labour said it was only by killing looters that the anti-corruption crusade being championed by President Muhammadu Buhari could succeed; an action most governors said would be too harsh.

Speaking on the matter, Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun said he would rather suggest that looters be sentenced to life imprisonment, rather than the death sentence prescribed by the organised labour.

.Also, both governors of Ekiti and Rivers States, Ayodele Fayose and Nyesom Wike respectively, out rightly rejected death penalty for looters.

After the six contestants with the lowest amount of votes performed again, , the Judges saved Arewa, the Faculty chose Pearl, while the contestants’ votes ended in a tie again. The onus to break the tie was then placed on the contestant with the highest viewers votes, Ada who then finally saved Kumi.
However, this sadly marked the end of Chike, Oluchi, and Joy’s journeys in the competition.

Last week, former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan have, once again, exchanged verbal jabs, criticizing each other for various political crimes. He should go away and retire in shame politically. He should leave the political landscape of this country alone. He brought a whole salad of corruption, manipulation and failures.”
- It is a fact of history that during Obasanjo’s Presidency, his Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige, was assassinated by operatives just before he resigned from the cabinet to go and revive his Alliance for Democracy (AD) to deny Obasanjo access to the South West, the home base he desperately needed to make certain his second term in power.

According to a Yahoo News report, authorities in Lagos have shut down dozens of churches across the city due to a deluge of complaints over noisy worship.
The city’s environmental protection department is said to have sealed off 22 premises on Wednesday after receiving dozens of complaints from residents.

Neighbours of one church – Jesus Our Lord Divine Catholic Prayer Ministry – said they were constantly disturbed by a congregation of mainly pregnant women, young mothers and their children.
“On my phone alone, I get 20 SMS on a daily basis,” said Adebola Shabi, head of the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, according to the national Daily New Telegraph.
In the next five years, if there is no stringent policy on the siting of religious houses, there will be problem.”
Constant noise — from the the thumping beats of loud music, the beep of car horns and the noise of generator engines — is the soundtrack to Lagos life and is seen by many as part of its charm.
But residents are complaining in unprecedented numbers that they can barely hear themselves think among the churches and mosques where giant loudspeakers pump out religious messages and music.
Officials receive around 50 telephone calls and 20 text messages a day complaining about noise, mostly from churches, the New Telegraph said.
“With the enforcement today, we would have sealed about 55 premises because the last enforcement we carried out, we shut 33 premises,” Shabi told reporters.
“I gave approval for closure of 22 premises today, making 55.”
Nigeria MDGs office deletes project tracker from website after PREMIUM TIMES borehole story
The Nigeria Millennium Development Goals, MDGs, Office has deleted an online tool, project tracker, from its website days after PREMIUM TIMES exposed how the office spent N154 million to construct a single borehole.
The story, published Tuesday, showed how the office spent outrageous sums to build boreholes around Abuja. The online project tracker contained details of the spending.
The tool, on http://www.fctmdgprojecttracker.org/, provided details of Abuja MDGs projects, contractors and contract sums.
A borehole in Abuja averages N1.5 million, but many contracts verified by PREMIUM TIMES were allocated for over N8 million, with the N154 million project being the most expensive.
The Abuja MDGs office did not respond to PREMIUM TIMES’ question concerning why the page was pulled down few days after the report was published.
The director of works at the office, known by his second name, Mr. Dalhatu, did not respond to calls and text messages.
Contacted, Desmond Utomwen, a spokesperson to the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals (OSSAP – MDGs), said he could not discuss the contract for boreholes as his office had no authority to dictate to the Abuja office how it spends its money.
The eight target goals of the MDGs, set at the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000, are eradication of extreme poverty and hunger; achieving universal primary education; promotion of gender equality; reduction of child mortality; improvement of maternal health; combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases; ensuring environmental sustainability and developing a global partnership for development.
In 2010/2011 alone, N249.26billion was channelled through Nigeria’s federal ministries, departments and agencies, “Quick Wins” (Constituency projects, but now called Special projects), Conditional Grants Scheme (CGS) to state governments, and Special presidential interventions for MDGs programmes and projects.
Analysts say poor execution of projects, racketeering, inflation of contracts, and other contractual breaches are some of the factors responsible for Nigeria’s inability to achieve its MDG goals.
Contract for the N154 million borehole, constructed at Gwanrinpa in Abuja, was awarded to Zarm Global Service on March 28, 2008. The company has no address, contact person or telephone number.
Another N110.6 million was paid for the construction of a borehole at Tungan Nasara community of Jiwa Ward in Abuja Municipal Area Council. The contract was awarded to Global And Global Venture Limited on March 29, 2008. Also, the company has no address or contact person.
Investigation revealed that a greater percentage of the 1,333 projects executed by the Abuja office of the MDGs between 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2011 in Abuja communities, were either below the set standard or abandoned by contractors.

Which is the most challenging role you’ve played in a movie?
Playing Nikky in Omo Ghetto was challenging. I had never broken a bottle before in my life, and I had also never been involved in a street fight, but I had to do all that in the movie. I put in my all and the character stuck. It took me some time to get that character out of my head.
Are you comfortable with your size, or would you like to change anything about it?
I’m okay. Right now, I’m even on a diet program trying to shed some weight. I know that I don’t want to go beyond this size because there are some sizes that are not good enough for a babe. And for a woman that has not started making babies, I should watch it if I don’t want to go way overboard.
It was reported that your wine store cost N42m, is it true, and what informed your setting up of the store?
This store, Bimbally, isn’t what I thought will come into place now. But the love for collecting wines, beauty and nature have always been in me. One day, I just thought of it that I haven’t really been working for a while now because I’m selective of the scripts I accept because I noticed that I was being stereotyped. I knew I needed a brand extension, and I thought of establishing a clothing line which I’m still going to do anyway, and a wine store. And the rest as they say, is history. The plan is to expand and have branches all over as time goes on.
It was alleged that your sugar daddy gave you the money to set up the store, what do you have to say about that?
It’s very funny when I hear things like that; I wonder where they think it up from. Looking at this shop, does it look to you like it’s worth N42m?
No, but my eyes could be deceiving me, is it?
I put this down with my own hard-earned money; no man gave me money. Even my family members were shocked when I opened the store because I didn’t inform anybody. My man was also surprised. Anyway, I think it’s a hype for me and I love it, except for the aspect of the man that they added to it.
What’s the craziest thing you can do on a movie set?
Now you’ve got me thinking. I’ve kissed severally. I really don’t know, but I can’t go nude.
Which is the most memorable kiss you’ve ever had on set?
It was with Femi Branch. I’ve forgotten the title of the film now but we played lovers and we had to make it real, and we really kissed. He had his back turned at me, and he said something. Instead of me to respond, I just grabbed him and started kissing him; even the director was stunned. He is my friend though and I know his wife.
Which actor would you like to kiss?
Internationally, it’s Idris Elba, but lately I’ve had a crush on Terrence Howard. Locally, it’s John Dumelo (Blushes).
What’s your favourite part of your body?
My lips.
There’s a lot of lesbianism talks in the industry nowadays, have you ever had a lesbian hit on you?
Not from anyone in the industry, but outside. There was a time I was at a party and they played one of my favourite songs and I started dancing excitedly. I noticed a lady was looking at me in a funny kind of way. When I sat down, we got talking. And she began putting her hands on me, telling me that she had been admiring me for a long time. There and then, I shut her down and she apologised. The irony is that she’s even a prettier lady than I am.
3 ways to handle an annoying co-worker
It could be frustrating having to listen to a coworker’s whining of how life has been unfair to him/her. It gets more annoying when they complain about your boss, especially when you like both your boss and coworker.
This puts your loyalty to test and you really don’t want to throw one person under the bus.

- Watch your mouth: It’s important to remember that if your co-worker is complaining to you, she’s probably complaining to others, too. That means whatever you tell her during those venting sessions has potential to bite you in the behind later if you’re not careful: She may innocently mention to Sue in accounting, “Rita said she hates when Stephanie emails us at the last minute too!” And Sue in accounting may blab about you, leaving potential for the kvetching to eventually get back to your supervisor.
- Offer to help: If your coworker is complaining about something that actually affects his or her work, say, that your boss is inattentive, suggest that she contact her directly with questions. If she’s whining about your boss’s breath or something similar, suggest your co-worker bring in mints to share or keep Lysol at her desk (with the excuse that she’s a germaphobe, of course). They key is to offer solutions, because if someone can actively take steps to fix a problem, they’re much less likely to bitch about it (and if they do bitch about it, they’ll feel at least a little bit guiltier for it).
- Change the subject: Not everyone is going to love every job every day, but there are things that can make a job better or worse. If you hate your job, complaining and venting can help you let off some steam, but doing it constantly is exhausting and distracting. If your colleague starts going on a tirade for the fifth time this week, a friendly “Work talk is boring—did you see Birdman yet?” or “Oh man, that reminds me, I really need to finish XYZ” should nip the conversation in the bud. And if you do that enough times, eventually she’ll get the hint!.

WHAT have you been up to these days?
I have a lot of things I have been working on, that’s why I have not been in the media in recent times. I want to come out with my projects big time before the end of the year. I’m still working on these projects.
I’m actually into other things. I have some businesses I’m trying to establish. I’m into building. But that notwithstanding, I was working on a movie. I’ve shot a part of it here in Nigeria and by God’s grace, I will shoot the rest in Europe. Hopefully, by December, I will be in Europe to complete the production. That is just one of the things I’ve been working on.
What are some of the other things you have been doing?
They are businesses. They have nothing to do with the movie industry. I’m trying to establish a company with foreigners who want to invest in Nigeria. We are really working on serious things.
Don’t you think that these other activities are gradually taking you away from acting?
Somehow, it is affecting my career as an actress. It is like I’m starting from the scratch, trying to establish something. I had to re-dedicate myself to acting because I know it is my foundation. I had to dedicate myself entirely for it to come out. By the time it finds its feet, I can now do other things. But it didn’t stop me from acting in movies. I have done some shoots recently. For instance, for my production, I have shot the Nigerian scenes. I will be completing the rest in Europe.
What is the story all about?
Well, the story is just a family drama. It is full of comedy and action. By the time I’m through with it, I will be talking more about it. For now, I don’t want to let the cat out of the bag because it is not yet complete. By the time it is ready, I will make a lot of noise about it.
So far, how much has the project cost you?
I’ve put a lot into it. I have partners too who have also put a lot into it. I don’t want to go into all that now but the bottom line is that I’ve spent so much and I hope to recoup my money when it comes out.
Is this your first time as a producer?
No, I’ve been a producer for quite a while now. I’ve produced movies and TV series. I produced My Sister My Child, Sincerely Yours, and Tears for Tomorrow which is a TV series; I co-produced it. It has about 76 episodes.
Do you see yourself leaving acting for movie production?
Not really. There is no movie of mine that I don’t star in.
Currently, what are you working on?
Actually, by next month, I will be going to Frankfurt, Germany for the Ehizoya Golden Entertainment Mega Award. It is a Nollywood award and a film festival. It is taking place from the 10th to 12th of September and Ehizoya, who is putting it together, is shooting a big budget movie also. So I am staring in it. It will be directed by Paul Julius. Other actors in the movie are Bishop Umeh, who is popularly known as Okon, Ngozi Ezeonu, Cossy Orjiakor and Gandoki. It has this comic feel to it. When it comes out, it will be the bomb. After the festival, we will stay behind to shoot the movie before we come back. I will also use the opportunity to complete the movie I’m doing with my partners.
Reading through your interviews, it appears you are comfortable talking about things most of your colleagues aren’t.
As I always say, my name is Cynthia. I can only be me. I cannot be somebody else. I don’t look at anybody, I don’t compete. I do my things my way. So if I’m comfortable saying anything, I say it because that is me. I don’t have to look at anybody because the person is restrictive. So, for that reason, I should behave like the person. I have my own self, so I have to behave like me.
Is Cynthia in a relationship?
Yes, she is.
Will you be walking down the aisle anytime soon?
I don’t know yet. I wouldn’t say, but if it is God’s wish, it will be. I just don’t want to force myself in there and then tomorrow, we will hear another story. I think everything rests with God. If it is His will, it will come to be. Everybody is praying for their own partner. In the same way, I am praying for mine. I want somebody that I can be friends with all the days of my life.
How would you know if it is God’s will or not?
Of course if it is God’s will, it will happen. What will happen will definitely happen.
But we have heard cases of artistes who got married, and claiming it is God’s will…
(Cuts in) People don’t pray about it. If they actually prayed about it, there is a way you will know whether it is his will or not. If you don’t pray about it, it might work, but it won’t last. But if you pray about it, things will fall into place. I believe in being natural about things.
Can you describe your typical man?
He should be God fearing and very caring.
What about the aspect of money?
He doesn’t have to be rich, as long as the person is God fearing and caring. Being caring is not about having the money. Being caring is wanting to know everything about you, advising you and just being there for you in your time of need and during trying period. That is being caring for me. It has nothing to do with having money.
But they say every woman needs a form of security and that means having money…
Of course, every woman needs to be pampered. We want to be pampered, we want to be cared for but I insist that it doesn’t necessarily involve money. It is not about being rich. It is only a woman who is not hardworking that will be looking for a man who is established. If you are hardworking and you are comfortable, you don’t really need a man who is extra rich.
As a woman, even when you start having children, you can take care of them. You can take care of yourself. It is not always about the money. It is bad when you have a man who doesn’t care about you, who doesn’t care about your career, who doesn’t care when you are crying or when you are laughing, who doesn’t want to know when you are in pain. But the man who cares about what is happening to you, if you are having headache, he is there to suggest what you will take; if you are crying, he is there to wipe your tears; if you are laughing, he is there to laugh with you. That is what I mean by caring.
Would you marry a man who has no job?
Yes, I will. As long as he is not lazy, because I don’t like lazy people. He might be jobless but is he hardworking and is he God fearing and caring? If he is, then he is okay by my standards. I don’t mind that.
What is happening to your beauty pageant?
It is part of the projects I am working on. We will definitely be holding the next edition by December. That will be the third edition.
