A 24-year-old armed robbery suspect, Emmanuel
Ibik, caused serious shock in a court sitting in Lagos when it was
discovered that he was an unrepentant criminal who had a pending case of
drug peddling.
This
much was disclosed by Head, Media and Publicity of the National Drug
Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mitchel Ofoyeju, who testified that Ibik
had a drug case pending in court and his re-arrest was a clear
manifestation of the link between drugs and crime.
He said:
"Ibik
Emmanuel is on bail on a pending drug case at the Federal High Court at
Awka, Anambra State, before he was arrested by detectives of the
Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, Lagos State Police Command.
He was apprehended by officials of the NDLEA in 2013 during raid operation at Enugu Ukwu, Anambra State."
The suspect was arrested by operatives of the SARS in February 2015, after he and his partner in crime, Chima Tony Agomoh, had snatch a Honda car from two women in the Lekki area of the state.
Emmanuel had confessed that he resorted to the crime because he desperately needed money
to settle his drug-related case at a high court.
